We’ve reimagined our favourite Daydreamer’s dress with honeycomb smocking sewn by hand on the bodice. We love experimenting with traditional stitch styles and, following the continuing success of the lightweight Daydreamer’s dress with Yutika chikankari hand embroidery, wanted to revisit the shape while exploring a different embroidery technique. The play here on the geometrical diamond shape in the smocking also echoes the Yutika design.

The Daydreamer’s dress is one of our classic styles and we keep returning to as it’s so comfortable and flattering. An offspring of the Cricket Watcher’s dress, it also has a high and loose-fitting waist but is a little longer and less full-skirted. It has a mandarin collar and pockets (of course!). This version is crafted in cotton poplin and can be supplied with a complementary slip in cotton cambric with adjustable straps (even though it’s not see-through). The dress and slip are black and the smocking is stitched in white thread.

Given the fragile nature of the smocking, this dress should be dry cleaned. If it is washed, then hand washing and air drying is recommended. It can be ironed on a cotton setting except for the bodice with should be gently steamed with an iron or steamer.
